A Turaco is an exotic African softbill.

The attractive pair canoodling here are White-cheeked Turacos. Later we will introduce you to many more species as you continue to tour the site. Please select your destination using the navigation buttons on the left.

Now looking for content for our Spring 2012 issue of the magazine. Member news would be particularly welcome, but any turaco related articles plus photographs could be included. Please send items to me now: david@turacos.org. Thank you.

Pair of White-cheeked Turacos

Welcome to our web site.

The International Turaco Society was set up in 1993 by a group of turaco enthusiasts who met at the Cotswold Wildlife Park in Burford (Oxfordshire in England). Anyone interested in any aspect of keeping or breeding turacos is welcome to join.

My thanks to the many members who have already paid their subscription for 2012. If you have not paid for 2011 yet, but wish to continue to be a member and receive magazine Issues 35 and 36, then please renew your subscription now. Thank you.

Please support the I.T.S. You can apply or renew on line (£12 U.K. and £13 overseas).

The I.T.S. needs every turaco enthusiast's support.

Issue 36 (Autumn 2011) of the I.T.S. magazine has now been posted out to paid up members.

Details

When contacting Nick Manning it is helpful to know basic details about the incubator you need help with, e.g. is it still air or fan assisted, does it have automatic turning or not?

Lost and found

Although turacos are not native to the UK, a number are living 'wild', having escaped from a collection somewhere. They are usually White-cheeked, but a few Violaceous have been spotted and any species kept in captivity could potentially escape from its flight. To identify the turaco have a look at the pictures on the species page. As for where he/she has come from, a good point of contact is John Hayward on 01869 325699, e-mail , who co-ordinates a national register of lost and stolen birds. He will pass the information on to Cage & Aviary Birds, a weekly newspaper.
